- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
- 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a dough forms.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Use cookie cutters to cut out heart shapes and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Let the cookies cool completely before icing.
- To make the icing, mix powdered sugar and milk until smooth, adding food coloring if desired.
- Decorate the cooled cookies with icing and let set before serving.
Notes
- Store cookies in an airtight container for up to a week.
- Feel free to add sprinkles or other decorations on top of the icing.
- These cookies can be made ahead of time and frozen for later use.
