Description

A comforting classic dish featuring juicy beef patties smothered in rich mushroom gravy.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  2. Shape the mixture into oval patties about 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add butter.
  4. Sear the patties for about 4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  5. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  6. Sauté sliced mushrooms in the same skillet for about 3-4 minutes.
  7. Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir for a minute.
  8. Whisk in the beef broth gradually until thickened.
  9. Return the patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over them, and let simmer for about 20 minutes.
  10. Serve hot with gravy drizzled over the top.

Notes

For a healthier version, consider air frying the patties or roasting them in the oven. Make-ahead tips include prepping patties in advance and storing them in the fridge.
