Ingredients

  • 1 pound mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the mozzarella sticks by cutting the cheese into uniform sticks.
  2. Set up a breading station with three bowls: one for flour, one for beaten eggs, and one for breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  3. Dip each mozzarella stick first in the flour, then in the beaten eggs, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture.
  4. Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
  7. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add some grated Parmesan cheese to the breadcrumb mixture.
  • Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying to prevent the cheese from leaking out.
  • These can be baked in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for a healthier option, but they won’t be as crispy.
