Midnight Blue Lagoon: A Mesmerizing, Vibrant Cocktail!

  • Author: Olivia
  • Total Time: 5 minutes

Description

A stunning layered cocktail with blue curaçao, coconut rum, pineapple, and a float of dark rum. Visually striking, sweet, and perfect for poolside sipping

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cocktail:

  • 2 oz (60 ml) premium vodka (Citrus or regular)

  • 1 oz (30 ml) blue curaçao liqueur

  • ½ oz (15 ml) fresh lime juice

  • 4 oz (120 ml) lemon-lime soda (e.g., Sprite, 7-Up) or clear lemonade

  • 12 drops violet food coloring or activated charcoal powder* (for the “midnight” depth)

  • Ice

For the Garnish & Glass:

  • Glass: Chilled highball or Collins glass

  • Garnish: Lime wheel or twist, cocktail cherry, edible silver glitter, glow-in-the-dark ice cube/cocktail sphere

  • Rim (Optional): Blue sanding sugar or black lava salt (mixed with blue sugar)

*A Note on Color: A single drop of violet food coloring mixed with the blue curaçao will create a profound, deep indigo. For a natural (and trendy) option, a tiny pinch of activated charcoal powder will create a dark, smoky blue-black hue. Use charcoal sparingly and be aware it may interact with medications.

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Glass
Chill your highball or Collins glass in the freezer for 10-15 minutes. For a sugared rim (optional), rub the rim with a lime wedge and dip it into a plate of blue sanding sugar or a black salt/blue sugar mix. Set aside.

Step 2: Mix the Base Spirits
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the vodka, blue curaçao, and fresh lime juice. If using violet food coloring or activated charcoal powder, add it now (start with ONE drop or a SMALL pinch).

Step 3: Shake and Strain
Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds until the shaker is frosty cold. This chills and dilutes the spirits perfectly.

Step 4: Build in the Glass
Fill your prepared glass with fresh ice cubes. Strain the shaken mixture over the fresh ice in the glass.

Step 5: Add the Sparkle
Slowly top up the glass with the chilled lemon-lime soda or clear lemonade, pouring it down the side of the glass to create a gentle mix of deep blue and effervescent bubbles.

Step 6: Add the Final Garnishes
Give the drink a very gentle stir to integrate the colors slightly. Garnish with a lime wheel, a cocktail cherry, and a sprinkle of edible glitter. For the ultimate magical touch, add a glow-in-the-dark ice cube or a pre-chilled cocktail sphere.

Step 7: Serve Immediately
Serve the cocktail at once, while it is icy cold and the bubbles are lively. Encourage the drinker to admire the mesmerizing color before taking their first refreshing sip.
