Limoncello Pineapple Margarita: A Citrusy, Vibrant Cocktail

  • Author: Olivia
  • Total Time: 5 minutes

Description

A bright blend of limoncello, fresh pineapple, tequila, and lime, shaken and served with a salted rim. Refreshingly sweet, tart, and perfect for summer sipping.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cocktail:

  • 2 oz (60 ml) silver/blanco tequila (100% agave recommended)

  • 1.5 oz (45 ml) limoncello liqueur

  • 2 oz (60 ml) fresh pineapple juice (chilled, preferably not from concentrate)

  • 0.75 oz (22 ml) fresh lime juice (about 1 medium lime)

  • 0.5 oz (15 ml) simple syrup or agave nectar (adjust to taste)

  • 1 cup of ice (for shaking)

For the Glass & Garnish:

  • Rim: Coarse salt, granulated sugar, or a mix of both. Lime wedge for moistening.

  • Garnish: Fresh pineapple wedge, lemon twist or wheel, fresh mint sprig, Luxardo cherry.

  • Glass: Chilled margarita glass, coupe, or rocks glass

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Glass
Chill your chosen glass in the freezer for at least 15 minutes. To rim, run a lime wedge around the outer edge of the glass. Dip the moistened rim into a small saucer of coarse salt, sugar, or a salt-sugar blend, twisting gently for an even coat. Set the prepared glass aside.

Step 2: Combine Ingredients in the Shaker
Fill a cocktail shaker about two-thirds full with fresh ice cubes. To the shaker, add the measured tequila, limoncello, fresh pineapple juice, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup.

Step 3: Shake Vigorously
Secure the lid on your shaker tightly. Shake with conviction and energy for 12-15 seconds. This not only chills the drink to its core but also properly dilutes it and aerates the juices, creating a wonderfully light, integrated texture and a slight froth from the pineapple.

Step 4: Strain and Serve
Remove your prepared glass from the freezer. If serving on the rocks, add a few fresh ice cubes to the glass. Using a Hawthorne strainer, strain the shaken cocktail into the glass. For a smoother drink, you can double-strain using a fine mesh sieve to catch any small ice chips or pineapple pulp.

Step 5: Add the Final Garnishes
Immediately add your chosen garnishes. A fresh pineapple wedge perched on the rim is classic. A twist of lemon peel expressed over the drink adds an aromatic burst of lemon oil. A sprig of mint or a Luxardo cherry adds color and complexity.

Step 6: Serve Immediately
Serve the margarita at once, while it is piercingly cold and the flavors are at their most vibrant. Encourage the drinker to enjoy the contrast of the salty/sweet rim with the bright, tropical sip
