Description
Make Christmas Fluff in 5 minutes! This easy no-bake dessert with pineapple, cherries, pecans & Cool Whip is a festive, creamy holiday favorite
Ingredients
For the Fluffy Base:
-
1 package (3.4 oz) Instant Pistachio Pudding Mix: This is the classic choice, providing the signature pastel green color and subtle, sweet pistachio flavor. Do not use cook-and-serve pudding.
-
1 can (20 oz) Crushed Pineapple, in its own juice: Do not drain. The juice is essential for hydrating the pudding mix.
-
1 container (8 oz) Cool Whip, thawed: This is the “fluff” that gives the salad its name and airy texture. You can use an extra-creamy version for a richer result.
For the Fruit and Texture Mix-Ins:
-
1 cup Miniature Marshmallows: These add a soft, pillowy texture and a extra touch of sweetness.
-
½ cup Maraschino Cherries, quartered: For a classic red-and-green Christmas color scheme. Be sure to drain them well.
-
1 can (11 oz) Mandarin Orange Segments, well drained (optional): Adds another layer of citrusy sweetness and bright color.
-
½ cup Chopped Pecans or Walnuts (optional): Provides a welcome crunchy texture and nutty flavor that contrasts the creaminess.
For Garnish:
-
Additional Maraschino Cherries (whole or halved)
-
A sprinkle of extra chopped nuts
Instructions
Step 1: The No-Bowl Method
In a large mixing bowl, empty the entire package of instant pistachio pudding mix. The key here is to use a bowl large enough to eventually hold all the ingredients with room for folding.
Step 2: Hydrate the Pudding
Open the can of crushed pineapple and pour it directly into the bowl with the dry pudding mix. DO NOT DRAIN THE PINEAPPLE. The juice from the can is the liquid that will “set” the pudding. Immediately, begin stirring with a spatula or whisk. The mixture will be thick and will quickly begin to thicken further as the pudding mix hydrates.
Step 3: Incorporate the “Fluff”
Add the entire container of thawed Cool Whip to the bowl. Using a spatula, begin to gently fold the Cool Whip into the pineapple-pudding mixture. “Folding” is a gentle, lifting motion that preserves the airy texture of the Cool Whip. Continue until the mixture is a uniform, pale green color with no visible white streaks.
Step 4: Add the Mix-Ins
Now, add your miniature marshmallows, the well-drained and quartered maraschino cherries, and any optional ingredients like drained mandarin oranges and chopped nuts. Gently fold these into the fluffy base until they are evenly distributed throughout.
Step 5: The Chill and Set
Transfer the fluffy mixture to a serving bowl. Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap. This is a crucial step for the perfect texture and flavor. Refrigerate the salad for at least 4 hours, but ideally overnight.
Step 6: Garnish and Serve
Just before serving, give the fluff salad one final gentle stir. Garnish the top with a few whole or halved maraschino cherries and a sprinkle of additional chopped nuts for a beautiful presentation.
Step 7: Enjoy the Tradition
Serve chilled, using a large spoon to scoop out portions. Enjoy this sweet, creamy, and nostalgic side dish as the perfect complement to your holiday feast.
