- 2 cups sourdough starter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 cup diced apples
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the sourdough starter, all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Add the applesauce, diced apples, and vegetable oil to the mixture and stir until well combined.
- If using, fold in the walnuts.
- Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 2 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a loaf pan and pour the batter into it.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For a sweeter bread, you can add more sugar or use brown sugar.
- Feel free to substitute the apples with other fruits like pears or peaches.
- This bread can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
