Purple People Eater Drink: Spooky & Sweet Halloween Cocktail

  • Author: Olivia
  • Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need:

The Purple Potion Base:

  • 2 oz Vodka: Use a plain, high-quality vodka. It provides a clean alcohol base without competing with the other flavors. For a non-alcoholic version, simply omit this.

  • 1 oz Blue Curaçao: This is the first half of the color magic. This bright blue orange liqueur is essential.

  • 1 oz Peach Schnapps: This provides a fruity sweetness and is the second key to creating the purple hue when combined with the other ingredients.

  • 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice: Absolutely critical. The acid from the lime juice is what reacts with the Blue Curaçao and Peach Schnapps to transform the mixture from blue to a brilliant purple. Bottled juice won’t provide the same sharp tang or chemical reaction.

  • 2 oz Sweet & Sour Mix: This enhances the citrus notes and adds a balanced sweetness. You can use store-bought or make your own.

The Fizz & Finish:

  • 2-3 oz Lemon-Lime Soda: (Sprite, 7-Up, or Sierra Mist). Added at the end for a refreshing fizz and a bit of extra sweetness.

  • Ice: Cubes for shaking and serving.

The Eerie Garnish (The Pièce de Résistance):

  • Lycusee Black Ice Cube Tray or Similar: To make the iconic “eyeball” ice cube. This is the most important garnish for the full effect.

  • 1-2 tbsp Chia Seeds: Placed in the ice cube tray to create the veiny, bloody eyeball effect.

  • Red Food Coloring: A few drops mixed with water to create the “bloodshot” background for the eyeball.

  • 1 large Lychee: Canned is fine. This will be the eyeball itself.

  • 1 Blueberry: To place inside the lychee as the pupil.

  • Optional Extra Garnishes: Gummy worms, plastic syringe droppers filled with more “potion,” or a rim of black sanding sugar.

Instructions

Now that you have your ingredients ready, let’s dive into the steps for conjuring this monstrously fun potion. It’s as easy as pie, and I promise you’ll feel like a mad scientist superstar!

Step 1: Create the Eyeball Ice Cube (Do This Ahead of Time)
This is the most crucial prep step. At least 4-6 hours before (or the day before), prepare your eyeball ice cubes. In a glass, mix about 1 cup of water with several drops of red food coloring until it’s a deep pink/light red color. Stir in 1-2 tablespoons of chia seeds and let them sit for 5 minutes to slightly gelatinize. Carefully pour the red, chia-seed-filled water into your spherical ice cube molds. Freeze for several hours until solid. Once frozen, pop out a cube. Take a canned lychee and place a single blueberry inside the cavity. Gently place this “eyeball” on top of the red ice cube in the glass. Return the assembled eyeball to the freezer until ready to use.

Step 2: Chill and Prepare the Glass
Take your serving glass (a highball or Collins glass is perfect) and place it in the freezer to get frosty. If desired, rim the glass with black sanding sugar by rubbing a lime wedge around the rim and dipping it in the sugar.

Step 3: The Alchemical Reaction
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the vodka, Blue Curaçao, peach schnapps, fresh lime juice, and sweet & sour mix. Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 12-15 seconds. This is where the magic happens: the lime juice reacts with the blue and orange liqueurs, and when you open the shaker, you will see it has magically transformed into a shocking purple potion.

Step 4: Assemble the Monster
Remove your chilled glass from the freezer. Place the pre-assembled eyeball ice cube into the glass. Strain the vibrant purple mixture from the shaker into the glass, over the eyeball.

Step 5: Add the Fizz
Top off the glass with 2-3 ounces of lemon-lime soda, watching it fizz and integrate with the purple potion.

Step 6: Final Ghoulish Touches
Add a Halloween-themed straw, dangle a gummy worm over the side of the glass, or add a final stir with a plastic syringe for effect. Serve immediately and watch your guests’ faces light up with delight.
