Description

Delicious homemade calzones filled with cheese and your choice of fillings, served with a side of marinara sauce.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Your choice of fillings (pepperoni, vegetables, etc.)
  • 1 cup marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, and knead until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into circles.
  6. Fill each circle with ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, and your choice of fillings.
  7. Fold the dough over and seal the edges by crimping with a fork.
  8. Place calzones on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Serve hot with marinara sauce on the side.

  • Feel free to customize the fillings based on your preference.
  • For a crispy crust, brush the calzones with olive oil before baking.
  • Calzones can be frozen before baking for a quick meal later.
