Description
Bring Christmas cheer with this vibrant Grinch Mimosa! A sparkling, fruity, and easy cocktail that’s perfect for brunch or holiday parties. Ready in 2 minutes.
Ingredients
The Core Ingredients:
-
2 oz Midori Melon Liqueur: This is the heart of the cocktail, providing the signature green color and sweet honeydew flavor.
-
3 oz Champagne or Prosecco: Chilled, dry (brut) or extra dry. Prosecco is fruitier and slightly sweeter; Champagne is drier and more bubbly.
-
1 oz Fresh Orange Juice: Preferably freshly squeezed for the best bright, tart flavor without pulp.
-
½ oz Lemon-Lime Soda: Such as Sprite or 7-Up. Adds a touch of extra sweetness and citrus fizz.
-
Ice Cubes (Optional): Only if serving in a rocks glass for a longer, chilled drink. Traditionally served without ice in a flute.
For the Optional (But Highly Recommended) Garnish:
-
Lime Wheel: A thin slice of lime for a fresh, aromatic touch.
-
Green Sugar Rim: Granulated sugar mixed with a few drops of green food coloring, or pre-made green sanding sugar.
Helpful Equipment:
-
Champagne Flutes or Coupe Glasses
-
Jigger or Small Measuring Cup
-
Plate for sugar rim
Instructions
Step 1: Create the Festive Green Sugar Rim (Optional but Essential for Presentation)
Pour a layer of green sanding sugar or homemade green-colored sugar onto a small plate. Take a lime wedge or a damp paper towel and run it around the outer rim of your champagne flute. Invert the glass and gently dip the moistened rim into the sugar, twisting to ensure an even, sparkling coat. Set the glass aside.
Step 2: Pour the Midori Melon Liqueur
Using your jigger, carefully measure and pour 2 oz of Midori melon liqueur into the bottom of your prepared flute. This will form the stunning green base layer.
Step 3: Add the Fresh Orange Juice
Slowly pour 1 oz of fresh orange juice over the back of a spoon held just above the Midori. This technique helps the orange juice float slightly on top of the denser liqueur, beginning the beautiful layered effect. You’ll see the colors start to blend at the interface.
Step 4: Top with Bubbles: Champagne & Soda
Now, slowly pour 3 oz of well-chilled champagne or prosecco into the glass. Follow it immediately with the ½ oz of lemon-lime soda. Pour these down the side of the glass gently to minimize disruption and maximize bubbles. The liquids will mix naturally, creating a lovely ombre effect from deep green to a light, effervescent green-gold.
Step 5: The Final Garnish
Gently place a thin lime wheel on the rim of the glass. For an extra touch, you can add a small straw or a cocktail pick with a single red maraschino cherry (to represent the Grinch’s heart growing!) resting on the lime.
Step 6: Serve Immediately
Present the mimosa right away while the bubbles are at their most active and vibrant. Encourage your guest to admire the colors before giving it a gentle stir or sipping to combine the flavors fully.
Step 7: Enjoy the Whimsy!
This cocktail is best enjoyed fresh, alongside festive brunch fare or as a cheerful toast among friends.
