A rich and decadent cake combining the flavors of chocolate and orange, perfect for any celebration.

- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- Zest of 1 orange
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
- Stir in the boiling water, orange juice, and orange zest until the batter is smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Once the cakes are cool, spread a layer of whipped cream on top of one cake layer, sprinkle with chocolate chips, and place the second layer on top.
- Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining whipped cream and garnish with additional chocolate chips and orange zest if desired.
Notes
- For a more intense orange flavor, add more orange zest.
- This cake can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
- Serve with fresh orange slices for added decoration.
