Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Festive Ice Ring (A Day Ahead or Morning Of)
This is the secret to a beautiful, undiluted punch. Take a Bundt pan, ring mold, or even a loaf pan. Fill with 1-2 cups of water or cranberry juice. Arrange orange slices, lime slices, cranberries, and small rosemary sprigs in the mold. Freeze overnight. This large, decorative ice block melts slowly, keeping the punch cold without watering it down as quickly as regular ice cubes.
Step 2: Make the Spiced Simple Syrup
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 1 cup of sugar, the cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, and strips of orange zest. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Reduce heat and simmer gently for 10 minutes to infuse the spices. Remove from heat and let it cool completely to room temperature, then strain out the solids. (This can be made days in advance and stored in the fridge.)
Step 3: Chill All Components
This is critical for a refreshing punch. Ensure your cranberry juice, pineapple juice, orange juice, pomegranate juice, and ginger ale are all well-chilled. Chill your prosecco and spirits as well. A warm base will melt your beautiful ice ring instantly and make the punch taste flat.
Step 4: Assemble the Punch Bowl (The Grand Moment)
Place your decorative ice ring in the center of a large punch bowl or a beautiful drink dispenser. Pour in the chilled cranberry juice, pineapple juice, orange juice, and pomegranate juice. Add the completely cooled spiced simple syrup and stir gently to combine.
Step 5: Add the Spirits (For Alcoholic Version)
For the spirited version, gently stir in your chosen base spirit—vodka, rum, or gin/St-Germain combination. Remember, the goal is flavor, not overwhelming alcohol. The punch should be pleasantly strong but easy to drink.
Step 6: The Final Sparkling Additions
Just before serving, to preserve the bubbles, gently pour in the chilled ginger ale and the chilled prosecco (or extra ginger ale for the non-alcoholic version). Stir very gently once to combine.
Step 7: Garnish and Serve
Float the remaining orange slices, lime slices, fresh cranberries, and rosemary sprigs on the surface of the punch. To serve, use a ladle to pour the punch over ice-filled glasses (if desired), ensuring each guest gets a bit of the beautiful fruit and herbs in their glass
