Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 8 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  8. While the torte is baking, prepare the ganache by heating the heavy cream and pouring it over the chopped dark chocolate. Stir until smooth.
  9. Once the torte is baked, let it cool completely before removing it from the pan.
  10. Pour the ganache over the cooled torte and let it set before serving.

Notes

  • For a more intense citrus flavor, add lemon zest along with the orange zest.
  • Serve with whipped cream or fresh berries for added flavor.
  • This torte can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
