Instructions
- Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add sliced onions, salt, and sugar; cook until onions are caramelized, about 20-25 minutes.
- Preheat a separate skillet or griddle over medium heat.
- Assemble the sandwiches by placing caramelized onions and Gruyère cheese between two slices of bread.
- Grill the sandwiches in the preheated skillet until golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.
