Ingredients
These ingredients come together to form a powerhouse of flavor:
-
2 oz vodka (or coffee liqueur for extra depth)
-
1 oz Kahlúa or coffee liqueur
-
4 oz freshly brewed coffee, chilled (espresso works best)
-
2 oz heavy cream or half-and-half
-
1 tsp simple syrup or to taste (optional for sweetness)
-
Ice cubes
-
Whipped cream for garnish (optional)
-
Cocoa powder, chocolate shavings, or coffee beans for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare your coffee. Brew a strong cup of coffee or espresso and allow it to chill. For best results, use freshly brewed coffee that has cooled to room temperature and then refrigerate for 10–15 minutes. This prevents your ice from diluting the flavors too much.
Step 2: Fill a tall glass with ice cubes. Using a highball glass or any tall glass ensures that the layers of coffee and cream are visually appealing and that the drink stays chilled for longer.
Step 3: Pour in the vodka and coffee liqueur. This combination creates the cocktail’s alcohol base. Stir gently to combine the flavors. If you prefer a stronger coffee kick, you can slightly adjust the ratio of coffee liqueur to vodka.
Step 4: Add the chilled coffee. Slowly pour it over the ice and alcohol mixture to prevent the coffee from immediately mixing with the cream, which helps maintain a layered effect if desired.
Step 5: Sweeten your cocktail. If you enjoy a sweeter touch, add simple syrup at this stage. Stir gently to combine, making sure not to break the chill of the ice.
Step 6: Pour in the cream. Slowly add the heavy cream or half-and-half over the back of a spoon or along the side of the glass. This technique helps create a floating cream layer, giving your Alaskan Iced Coffee a luxurious, layered look.
Step 7: Garnish and serve. Top your cocktail with whipped cream, a sprinkle of cocoa powder, chocolate shavings, or even a few coffee beans for a café-style presentation. Serve immediately with a straw or stir stick
